The GIA Field app
Field app limits to be aware of
What the phone app deliberately does not do, so you know when a job belongs in the officer web portal.
Where to find it
Applies everywhere in GIA Field
These are current, known limits of the shipped app. None of them is a fault to report. Most of them come down to the same idea: the app is built to capture work in the field, and the officer web portal is where records are set up and put right.
- A fresh sign-in needs signal
- The app stays signed in between sessions and works offline after that, but signing in again — on a new phone, or after logging out — needs a connection. Do it before you set off, not at the nursery gate.
- The grower list is read-only
- There is no Add Grower on the phone, and no way to correct a name, phone number or address. You can add a new business yourself in the officer web portal; correcting one that is already there is an administrator job, so ask them. Either way the change reaches the phone the next time the app connects.
- A logged visit cannot be changed on the phone
- There is no Edit and no delete on a past visit. Only the officer who logged it can correct it, only in the officer web portal, and only while the reporting period that visit falls in is still the active one. Once the platform moves on to the next period, the visit is locked for good.
- The date is today unless the visit was planned
- A visit logged from the Log tab is dated the day you log it, so it cannot be caught up the next morning with yesterday's date. Only Log this visit, on a visit you planned, keeps the planned day.
- One attendee count per visit
- Where a visit includes more than one course or workshop, the phone holds a single head count for all of them. Log that visit in the officer portal, which takes a count for each.
- One survey per visit, final once submitted
- A survey belongs to a single visit and cannot be reopened, edited or run a second time once it has been submitted — on the phone or in the portal.
- No photos
- There is nowhere to attach or take an image, on a visit or anywhere else in the app.
- Log Out empties the phone
- Logging out clears the local copy, including anything still under Pending Upload. Sync before you log out.
- Only your own work
- You see your own growers and your own visits. There is nothing on the phone for another officer's round, and no program-wide figures or reports.
- No password reset on the phone
- You can change a password you know, from the Me tab. If you are locked out, your administrator sets a new one for you — the sign-in screen has no reset link.
- Overdue means 90 days
- A grower is flagged overdue once 90 days have passed since their last visit. It is a prompt, not a deadline the app enforces.
What you'll see
Everything above is expected behaviour. If something else does not work the way this guide describes, that is worth reporting to the team.
Good to know
The app holds your growers' names, phone numbers and email addresses on the device, so keep a screen lock on the phone and report a lost one straight away.
