The GIA Field app

Logging a visit on the app

Record a visit on the phone in two steps: choose the grower, then the topics, attendees and notes.

Where to find it

GIA Field Log

Before you start

Log it while you are still at the nursery. The visit is dated the day you log it, and you do not need reception to do it.

Steps

  1. 1 Select Log, the raised button in the middle of the tabs. + Log a Visit on Home opens the same thing.
  2. 2 Under Select grower, type into the box marked Search by name or GN-#### until the business appears, then select it. Only growers assigned to you are listed.
  3. 3 If you chose the wrong business, select Change to go back to the search.
  4. 4 Under Topics, select everything you delivered.
  5. 5 Where a Mini Tech Skills course or a workshop is among them, one Attendees box appears — type the head count into it as a whole number from 1 to 2000, or leave it empty to record no count. That single figure is recorded against every course and workshop you selected.
  6. 6 Write what was discussed into Visit notes (optional).
  7. 7 Select Save visit.

What you'll see

The form is replaced by a Visit Logged! screen, with the line "Your visit has been saved locally and will sync when online." beneath it and three ways on: Grower Survey to hand the phone over now, Log Another Visit for the next nursery, or Back to Home. With no reception the visit is held on the phone and shows under Pending Upload on Home until it goes up.

  • Save visit stays greyed out until you have chosen a grower and at least one topic.
  • Attendees appears only for Mini Tech Skills courses and workshops, because they are the only activities reported by attendance.
  • A grower you have just found cannot be added on the phone — add it in the officer portal, then log the visit there.

Important

Attendees is one figure for the whole visit, not one per activity. If you ran a Mini Tech Skills course for 12 people and a workshop for 40 on the same visit, the phone cannot hold both numbers — whichever you type is recorded against each of them. Where the head counts differ, log that visit in the officer portal instead, where each course and each workshop carries its own Attendees box — see Recording how many people attended. Logging the two deliveries as separate visits on the phone keeps the counts apart as well, though it adds a second visit to your Visits this period figure.

Good to know

The date is always today, so a visit logged the next morning is recorded on the next day. A logged visit cannot be edited or deleted on the app, so check the head count and the topics before you select Save visit. Afterwards only the officer who logged the visit can change it, and only in the officer portal, while the reporting period the visit falls in is still the active one — once the platform moves on to the next period, the visit is locked.
