What the GIA Field app is
The field app on your phone, how it differs from the officer website, and why it matters in a shed with no reception.
Where to find it
Your phone GIA Field
GIA Field is an app that lives on your phone. It is not the officer website in a browser: the website needs a connection every time you save something, while the app holds your growers, the activity topics and the survey questions on the phone itself, so you can work at a nursery with no signal at all.
- The officer website
- Opens in any browser, on a laptop or a phone. Nothing is kept as a draft — a connection lost part-way through a form loses what is on screen.
- The GIA Field app
- Installed on the phone your team gives you. A visit or survey recorded with no reception waits in Pending Upload and goes up the moment you are back in range.
The app is for extension officers only. Administrators work in the web portal and have nothing to install.
- Five tabs sit across the bottom: Home, Visits, Log, Growers and Me. Log is the raised button in the middle.
- You can log a visit, plan a visit, and hand the phone to the grower for the Grower Survey.
- You can read your own growers and your own visits, including who is overdue at 90 days.
- Everything you log feeds the same program figures as the website — the app is another way in, not a separate set of records.
What you'll see
You can drive out to a nursery with no reception, log the visit and run the survey at the gate, and have it all counted in the program's numbers as soon as you have a bar of signal again.
Good to know
The app does not replace the officer website. Adding a grower you have just found, and correcting a visit you have already logged, are still web-portal jobs — the grower list on the app is read-only, and a logged visit cannot be edited on the phone. There are no photos anywhere in the app.
